Peninsula School of Art hosts Saturday
iPad Painting Demo and Gallery Talk

Fish Creek, WI, November 4, 2011 - On Saturday, November 19, the featured artists of the exhibition, "30 Paintings/ 30 Days," at Peninsula School of Art, 3900 County Road F in Fish Creek, will share their processes and experiences as they relate to the exhibition with an iPad painting demonstration and gallery talk.  Each participating artist agreed to paint one painting a day for 30 consecutive days, but in the time frame of their choosing.

Beginning at 1pm, Susan Murtaugh, of Two Creeks, will create her 30th and final iPad painting for "30 Paintings / 30 Days" in the School's gallery. Utilizing the iPad art application, SketchBook Pro, the artist will connect her iPad to a large screen TV monitor so the public may view her digital process easily. Murtaugh uses a homemade stylus that looks like a traditional long brush, with a special easel to hold her iPad. Although it might look like her painting is conventional, she is quick to point out that her process is anything but.

"With the art app I can utilize layers instantly," she says. "I can zoom in on work 2800 times [magnification]; it's so easy on the eyes. I love the three-finger swipe for undo. And, I love that I can print my work on a variety of substrates: archival papers, canvas, even aluminum."

Murtaugh's series of still life paintings for the exhibition are displayed in the form of archival prints. Murtaugh is an internationally-recognized iPad artist and serves as a consultant for art software for companies such as Apple.

At 3pm, six of the seven featured artists will engage in a gallery talk to share their experiences during the 30-day project. As revealed from his or her artist statements, what each artist gleaned from the project was as individual as each person. Their experiences ranged from emotional insights to a new artistic direction. Participating in the discussion in addition to Murtaugh are: Fred Bell, Bonnita Budysz, Shelby Keefe, Jason Prigge and Kristi Roenning.

Refreshments will be served. The exhibition, demonstration and talk are free and open to the public.
